Welcome to Save the Dey, a website dedicated to helping one young woman accomplish her dreams. Originally from Mexico, Deyanira Chavez now lives in western North Carolina with her mother and brothers. She arrived in the United States at age 12, learned English, graduated near the top of her high school class (receiving the Principal's Medal for her demonstration of leadership and community service) and entered architecture school at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Because of her immigration status she was forced to pay out-of-state tuition and college quickly became unaffordable. Deyanira is currently enrolled at a local community college, continuing her core academic studies. She hopes to return to UNC Charlotte to continue pursuing her dream of becoming an architect. In addition, she hopes that publicizing her situation will raise awareness of a predicament faced by many children of immigrants. Please take the time to look around the site, learn more about Deyanira, and find out how you can help. You might want to start by reading her essay or listening to her radio interview. Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for helping us "Save the Dey!" ________________________________________________ Save the Dey is created and supported by Dey's Friends Website design and management by Trading Moon |
